Aknemycin Plus Combines An Antibiotic And A Retinoid In An Easy To Use, All In One Solution

20150329_233715Aknemycin Plus is a topical, prescription only medication that combines both erythromycin and tretinoin.

It is used to treat less severe forms of acne but acne that doesn’t respond to milder over the counter treatments.

Aknemycin Plus is the brand name but it is also available generically.

How Does Aknemycin Plus Work?

The two active ingredients Erythromycin and Tretinoin work to hinder the growth of bacteria, stop blackheads and whiteheads from forming and helps to reduce the inflammation associated with acne.

Erythromycin is an antibiotic that helps to kill acne causing bacteria (known as p.acnes). Tretinoin is part of the retinoid family and is a derivative of Vitamin A and it is believed to help unblock pores so that the skin’s oil producing glands can work correctly, although its not certain exactly how Tretinoin works.

Who Can Use Aknemycin Plus?

If you have acne that hasn’t responded to other treatments, your doctor may prescribe Aknemycin to you.

Its not suitable for pregnant women or those who want to become pregnant due to the possible risk of harm to the fetus.

User Reviews

There are not a great deal of user reviews online of Aknemycin Plus but the ones we did find were generally quite positive with users saying that once they had got past the initial ‘break-out’ stage that their skin did improve quite drastically, but that it did take time to work and the side effects were unpleasant.

Where To Buy Aknemycin Plus In Ireland

Aknemycin Plus is only available on prescription.

Our Thoughts

Aknemycin Plus is an effective medication but like many prescription medications it is quite caustic and for those with more sensitive skin types, it could cause the skin to become even more irritated and could exacerbate the existing acne.

woman with clearskinThere is also the issue with antibiotic resistance. Antibiotics when used for a prolonged period can sometimes stop working.

There is a lesser chance of this
when used in this kind of preparation but it is still a possibility.
